In one study, 33 individuals were given a multivitamin providing 50 percent of their daily requirements for one year. At the end of the study, those individuals with lower levels of it were more likely to develop pneumonia then those with normal levels of this mineral.

Children ages 4 through 6 - 10 milligrams
Children ages 7 through 10 - 10 milligrams
Adolescent and adult males - 15 milligrams

Pregnant females - 15 milligrams
Breast-feeding females - 16 - 19 milligrams

Amiloride
Tetracycline
Ciprofloxacin
Penicillamine
