The Water Cure - Drink Your Way
to Better Health

By Kearney Adams

Ordinary tap water could be one of your best home remedies. water glass

The water cure refers to a program developed by the late Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, an Iranian physician, that states that there is an important relationship between the consumption of water and the absence of disease.

Dr. Batmanghelidj has written several books on this topic, including, "You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty."

He thinks that many common diseases, such as arthritis, asthma, and high blood pressure are caused when the body becomes dehydrated.

He claims that when the body is inadequately hydrated, it attempts to conserve water, which contributes to the development of numerous diseases.

Why Is Water Important?

Drinking adequate amounts of water is important for several reasons.

First of all, the water cure helps keep the skin looking great. Drinking lots of water helps remove any toxins that may build up in your skin, while helping to prevent it from drying out.

Our bodies depend on water as a catalyst, a transportation system, and to maintain a proper body temperature.

What Does Water Do In Your Body?

According to Dr. Batmanghelidj, unintentional chronic dehydration can cause pain and may lead to many degenerative diseases.

Each 24 hour day of your life, your body recycles the equivalent of 40,000 glasses of water in order to maintain normal physiological functions.

Due to your body's normal metabolic processes, you will develop a deficit of 6 to10, 8 ounce glasses of water each day, which should be replaced through water consumption daily.

Many times, individuals will notice an energy boost after drinking adequate amounts of water.

How Much Water Should I Drink?

To make sure your body is adequately hydrated, this program suggests you should drink one half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. drink water For example, a 200 pound individual would need to drink 100 ounces of water each day.

Also, you should add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to each quart of water you drink. It is recommended that you use sea salt instead of ordinary table salt.

It's a good idea to drink your water before meals.

Plus, you should drink water 2 1/2 hours after a meal to complete the digestive process.

It is also wise to start your day with a glass of water, to rectify any possible dehydration that may have occurred during sleep.

What Conditions Does the Water Cure Help With?

Here is a list of conditions that Dr. Batmanghelidj claims the water cure is effective against:

What about Other Beverages?

Although drinking other beverages such as milk may be good for you, they are no substitute for water. In fact, you should consider milk as a food instead of a beverage.

Additionally, you should avoid drinking caffeinated or alcoholic beverages as they will function as a diuretic and can cause you to become dehydrated.

Also, for optimum health, you should exclude beverages that contain artificial sweeteners. drinking glass

There is some controversy concerning the efficacy of the water cure.

There is currently no available research proving the effectiveness of this treatment in preventing certain diseases.

What the studies do illustrate is, those that drink certain amounts of water, have better overall health profiles than those who don't.

In fact, any claims of a aqua cure could land you in trouble with the Food and Drug Administration.

However, in my opinion, dehydration can cause certain diseases in some people occasionally.

From my point of view, I'm not totally convinced that water is quite the cure-all that Dr. Batmanghelidj says it is. Given that there is limited scientific evidence to validate his claims, I would take the water cure with a grain of salt.

However, keeping your body adequately hydrated with plenty of H2O is certainly a good idea for a number of reasons, including younger and healthier skin, a healthier cardiac system, and the energy boost that water provides.

I'll drink to that!
