"An Arthritis Home Remedy
Might Be The Solution!"

"A common spice used for cooking can relieve your Arthritis pain"

Hip DysplasiaAn arthritis home remedy, often overlooked, can provide valuable pain relief when used in conjunction with conventional arthritis medicines.

There are over 100 forms of arthritis, with Osteoarthritis being the most common type.

Arthritis is defined as inflammation of a joint, often accompanied by pain and structural changes.

Google News reports on a story from Arthritis Guide Online how controlling your diet can help you manage your pain.

A survey of over 1000 Arthritis sufferers revealed that foods such as red meats, sugar, fats, caffeine and nightshade plants could aggravate your Arthritis.

In one study, by eliminating dairy products, the participants' pain was stopped within a few weeks

Vegetarian diets can be beneficial too. In a 2001 study, patients with moderate to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis saw relief after four weeks eating a low-fat, vegetarian diet.

The cartilage surrounding the joint normally acts as a shock absorber. When you lose cartilage, your bones rub together, resulting in pain.

Cartilage normally absorbs fluid and nutrients keeping the joint healthy and smooth. In osteoarthritis, cartilage does not get the fluid and nutrients it needs, causing it to dry up and crack.

Osteorthritis can be caused by numerous factors, including:
  • Being overweight
  • Aging
  • Injury to a joint

[Top] Home Remedies For Arthritis

1) GingerGinger The first arthritis remedy we will discuss is Ginger.

When it was discovered that Ginger inhibited the induction of several genes that influence the inflammatory response, researchers started to consider its usefulness as an arthritis home remedy.

Recently, PUBMED, an online medical research resource, searched numerous medical databases as far back as 1985. They found at least two studies confirming Ginger's usefulness as an arthritis remedy.

[Top] 2) Glucosamine and Chondroitin

The next arthritis home remedy we will examine is Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

A four-year study, known as the Glucosamine/chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT) involved nearly 1600 participants.

In this study, these individuals were divided into different groups and received either Glucosamine, Chondroitin, a combination of Glucosamine and Chondroitin, the prescription medicine Celecoxib or placebo.

They found that 79 percent of the group taking both Glucosamine and Chondroitin saw a 20 percent or greater reduction in their pain levels.

At study's end, researchers felt this arthritis home remedy was effective in treating moderate to severe pain.

[Top] 3) Turmeric

TurmericOur next arthritis home remedy is Turmeric.

Turmeric, a common spice used in cooking, has been used for centuries by practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine as a treatment for numerous inflammatory disorders.

The major constituent of Turmeric is curcumin, a chemical giving it its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capabilities.

In a study published in the journal of Arthritis & Rheumatism, researchers prepared two experimental extracts for a number of laboratory rats. One extract contained 34 percent curcumin while the other contained 41 percent.

The rats were injected with either a saline solution or an arthritis-inducing solution.

Next, they were injected with either one of the Turmeric extracts, an over the counter product, or a control solution.

Cartilage destruction in the rats' tibia was reduced by 66 percent and destruction of thighbone mineral density was reduced by 57 percent compared to the control group.

[Top] 4) Omega 3 Fatty Acids

It has recently been discovered that cytokines may play a role in Rheumatoid arthritis. Cytokines are chemical messengers inhibiting or stimulating a number of damaging immune cells.

A good strategy would be to find home remedies that will lower levels of these proinflammatory cytokines.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids will do just that.

An Australian study of 50 individuals with Rheumatoid arthritis was done.

Half of the participants received Fish Oil capsules, while the other half received placebo capsules. These placebo capsules contained 50 percent corn oil and 50 percent olive oil.

At the end of 15 weeks substantial improvement was noted in the Fish Oil group.
